HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE: This position will provide engineering support to assist in the upfitting of class 1-8 commercial vehicles. This will include developing solutions for technical problems to assist Engineering and Operations. Job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: Work from drawings to assemble, build, and test parts & fixtures as required. Weld & fabrication experience is preferred, but training is available for qualified candidates. Assist the engineering staff in producing detailed drawings using SolidWorks CAD software. Provide support for the installation of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical equipment. Assist with building prototypes and proof of concept time measurement studies. Assist the engineering staff in developing equipment installation instructions and operating procedures. Participate in cross-functional teams to ensure the continuous improvement of safety, quality, and productivity, while reducing costs. Enter and maintain bill of material structures in an inventory management system. Support of LEAN and 5S initiatives. Work in a safe manner while following all company and department procedures and policies. WHAT THIS ROLE NEEDS: A "hands-on" mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability. Mathematical proficiency including but not limited to: core concepts of algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. The ability to work in both imperial and metric units. Understanding of basic physics and structural design. Working knowledge of 3D CAD software and Microsoft products, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook. The ability to use a variety of small hand and power tools in a safe manner. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to wear required PPE and work safely with heavy equipment, hydraulic, pneumatic, & electrical systems. EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE: Associates degree, preferably in engineering. Or high school diploma with four to seven years of progressive experience. Or a combination of education and experience. PHYSICAL & MENTAL ENVIRONMENT: Position requires the ability to sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time in an office setting and the shop floor. Position requires the ability of fine motor skills to pinch, handle or feel items and use the computer. Position requires the ability to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Position requires the ability to occasionally lift to 50 pounds. Position requires the ability to close vision, adjust focus, and discriminate between red, green and white. Position will be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, noise, extreme heat and risk of electrical shock. Position will occasionally require travel and overtime. The position is indoors and there may be exposure to hazardous fumes and debris. There will be varying temperatures between different areas.
